The falling snow has moved out, but the fallen snow has covered the Riverbend with 2-4 inches since last evening. It’s mostly a dry snow, so it is blowing and drifting in some places this morning and roads are snow covered, although plows have been out all night on the more heavily traveled routes.
Road crews spent New Year's Day making sure Illinois and Missouri roads would be safe for drivers and pre-treated some surfaces before the snow began to fall. With temperatures well below freezing today, drivers should be aware of the possibility of refreezing on all surfaces as we head through the day but especially again tonight when the low could be near Zero. Drivers should also stay clear of snow plows, giving them plenty of room to work, and remember it’s now against the law to use your hand held cell phone while driving.
The cold weather will be with us for at least the next week, with bitter cold temperatures and more snow expected early next week.
