Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White sent a letter to Governor Rauner saying the budget impasse could begin affecting his offices. In the letter sent last week, Secretary White says his office is getting to the point where bills are no longer being paid, and it will directly impact office services to the people.
White said the situation has grown critical. He says computer and software vendors are discontinuing service, some of his offices are going into default on their leases due to lack of payment, the armored trucks used to transport money to and from state buildings have threatened to quit, and the utilities services that heat and light the capitol in Springfield have threatened to discontinue service.
The General Assembly has been at odds with Governor Rauner over a budget and have been operating without one since July 1st.
The governor’s office wasn’t immediately available to comment on the letter.
