The memorial to honor the history of Alton's Western Military Academy is ready for an official dedication. The monument on Seminary Street is getting the final touches put on it today, in preparation for the ceremony Saturday morning.
Western graduate and member of the memorial committee, C.B. Jackson, says the dedication will be at 10am rain or shine, inside of the school gymnasium.
There will be some parking on the school grounds at the parking lot just north of the school building, and on a field next to the school as well. Western closed in 1971, graduating over 150 cadets that year. The school can trace its roots back to 1879.
