A group that is developing a memorial to honor Western Military Academy is ready for an official groundbreaking.  The property on Seminary Street is now owned by Mississippi Valley Christian School, but there have been no issues in taking the 0.17 acre site and using it to remember the school that was a fixture in Alton for so many years.

Western graduate and co-organizer of the memorial effort, Mike Doucleff, says there has been plenty of support for this project.

Doucleff comments

Western closed in 1971, graduating over 150 cadets that year.  The school can trace its roots back to 1879.  Tomorrow's groundbreaking will be at 9:00am.  Doucleff says the dedication is scheduled for May 25.
