Traffic continues to find its way around the floodwaters around the Mississippi River. The lower lanes of U.S. 67 between the Clark Bridge and Highway 94 in West Alton remains underwater, as does much of the Great River Road on the Illinois side of the river. It may take a little longer for the road in Missouri to reopen than the one connecting Alton and Grafton.
MoDOT Engineer Larry Welty says while progress is being made, you should still anticipate 2-way traffic on the upper lanes of 67 for your morning commute on Monday.
Likewise, IDOT Engineer Joe Monroe says they will have to examine the Great River Road before opening it up - possibly by Monday.
He says what amazes him most is the amount of silt and sand left behind, even with the river running as fast as it has been.
