Are you still letting your faucets drip? Even though air temperatures are well above freezing, that’s no guarantee the warmth is getting to your pipes, according to a spokesman for Illinois American Water. Karen Cotton says running a pencil-thick stream of water can still help prevent your pipes from freezing and causing expensive damage.
She says it has been an especially hard winter, and with the amount of snow that will be melting over the next several days, there will be plenty of water looking for the path of least resistance. She says this can come in the form of ponding along area roadways, or as an accumulation of water in your basement.
