If you think your tap water tastes or smells odd, you're not alone. Customers of Illinois American Water have recently reported the issue to the company, which is aware of what is going on, and is working on a fix. The lower than normal level of the Mississippi River is the main culprit according to the company.
Illinois American Water company spokesman Karen Cotton says the water is safe to drink.
She says some people have reported being able to change the taste of the water by putting it in the refirigerator for an hour or so. As for a timeline on getting the taste straight out of the tap adjusted, she said it was too early to tell, but assured the company was working on is as we speak.
