The City of Wood River may be raising water and sewer rates. The possibility has been studied by the city's Finance Director and Public Services Director for several months. They presented various scenarios to the city council at Monday night's meeting.
Wood River Mayor Frank Akers says these are enterprise funds, which ought to break even. But he tells The Big Z the city has subsidized both the water and sewer funds for many years.

Proposals were submitted that would eliminate subsidies within three years and come up with ways to build capital reserves for both funds within five years. No decision has been made as to which, if any, of the proposals to approve. Akers says the council is in many ways seeing this information for the first time, so it will take some time to come to a decision.
