The 813,000 Central Illinois homes and businesses who get their natural gas from Ameren Illinois could see their bills rise as much as four-dollars a month under a rate increase the company is seeking. The company has told the Illinois Commerce Commission it needs the added 48-million-dollars in revenue to recover the cost of delivery.
The Citizen's Utility Board's Jim Chilsen says the price of natural gas is coming down, and this request is outrageous.
If approved, this rate hike wouldn't take effect before late December. Chilsen says you can contact your lawmaker to oppose this legislation through a website that has been set up for that purpose. You can find a link to that site below:
