The Citizen’s Utility Board is requesting a state investigation of the Illinois electric market, after numerous complaints raising concerns over the highest electric rates ever seen in the state. Over 500 people in have asked the Illinois Commerce Commission to weed out bad players and protect consumers since CUB launched the initiative last week.
CUB Spokesman Jim Chilsen says if you are getting your electricity through municipal aggregation, this likely does not apply to you.

He says the main driver of savings over the past few years has been municipal aggregation, but rates have dropped dramatically recently, so you may want to consider returning to Ameren. Whatever you do, he says you need to ask plenty of questions about an alternative supplier’s rate structure, including if what they are offering you is for an introductory period.
