Households in Wood River will notice a slight rise in the price they pay for garbage and refuse services starting next month. The Wood River City Council approved a new contract with Allied Waste Transportation of Edwardsville during Monday night’s meeting. The three-year contract calls for a $1.59 hike in the cost of service, but Mayor Fred Ufert says that was the best price they could get after renegotiating with the three companies that submitted bids.

Ufert says households will pay $11.99 per month for service beginning on September 15th. He says residents should get a letter from Allied Waste before that date outlining the pick up schedule. For more information call Wood River City Hall at 251-3100.
