You would think a motel in a town severely damaged by a tornado would be doing a land-office business in the aftermath. Unfortunately for the Patel family of Washington, Ill., their Super 8 lost power for a few days and has only about half their 45 units filled.

Khushboo Patel says she opened the doors to 50-75 people seeking shelter and put them in a hallway, as there is no basement.

“The clouds were, like, really, really, really dark,” says Patel. “Two kids came in and they were, like, it's really scary outside, and their parents were looking out for shelter.”

The motel is near an apartment complex which was hit hard.
