Motorists should be prepared for delays or detours today during the visit of Vice President Joe Biden. The visit is both public and political, as the vice president will visit the St. Louis Gateway Arch for a construction update as well as attend fund-raising events in Alton for the U.S. Senate campaign of Senator Dick Durbin.
The Village of Bethalto has informed residents and businesses of road closures this afternoon when the Vice President arrives in the area. The grounds of St. Louis Regional Airport will be closed at around 2:00pm today along with Highways 255, 140 and 111 around the airport. They will be completely closed for about 20 minutes to accommodate the motorcade. The same closures will be in place when the vice president departs around 8:00pm. While in Alton, Mr. Biden will stop at the Simmons Firm, as well as the Simmons residence for Democratic fundraisers, and additional traffic controls could be put in place in those areas.
