Residents of three River Bend communities and one other in Madison County have approved a question on the ballot that will allow city and village leaders to look for cheaper electric rates on their behalf. Voters in Alton, Bethalto and Godfrey all said yes to the question on Tuesday, as did voters in Glen Carbon. Granite City and Collinsville residents voted against the measure.
The next step will now be for government leaders to work with the company Good Energy to begin the process of searching for the cheapest rates and then presenting the boards and councils with a proposal. Residents in those communities will automatically be included and offered the new rates, or will have the opportunity to opt-out. The proposal could be in the hands of the local communities by this summer.
