Village officials in Bethalto continued to piece together the picture of the fiscal year by approving the yearly appropriation ordinance at last night’s meeting. The measure reflects a 19-percent increase in village expenditures when compared to the figures from the previous fiscal year.
Bethalto Mayor Alan Winslow says there is one reason for that increase.
The expansion of the sports complex and the construction of a new water treatment plant accounts for a little more than $2-million or 14% of the budget for this fiscal year and Winslow says that the increase in expenditures will not mean a rise in taxes for Bethalto residents.
In other business, the board approved the hiring of Jeffery M. Shank as a Bethalto Police Officer, accepted MFT Street Maintenance bids from JTC Petroleum, Quad County, Maclair Asphalt and Mahony Asphalt for various projects within the Village, and the board was asked to review a consulting proposal from former Mayor Steve Bryant.
