The community pool in Bethalto is closed for good. Now about 65-years-old, the pool would need massive repairs in order to reopen, and according to the village's mayor, Bethalto doesn't have that kind of money to spend.
The town's Rotary Club helped build the pool 6 1/2 decades ago. Mayor Alan Winslow tells The Big Z it was a tough decision to close the pool.

He says the village still plans on building a splash pad, so there will be at least one water attraction in the village. The splash pad will be built in its original spot. Winslow says the existing pool property could someday be repurposed into any one of a number of things, but a decision on that won't happen this year.
