A 31-year old Jerseyville man is dead following an overnight car accident that caused a portion of Illinois Route 140 to remain closed until early Friday morning. Authorities responded to the report of a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of College Avenue and Fosterburg road just after 10:20 Thursday night. Authorities say Aaron D. Summers of the 28,500 block of Bradshaw Road died as the result of neck trauma. He was wearing the passive shoulder restraint but not a lap belt, according to the Madison County Coroner's office.

According to a report from the Madison County Coroner's Office, Summers was traveling west along Illinois Route 140 when his vehicle collided with a  pickup truck attempting to turn left from Illinois Route 140 onto Fosterburg. Police say that Summers was traveling at a "high rate of speed" and that he was pronounced dead at the scene just after 1 am on Friday morning.  Alton Fire Chief Bernie Sebold says it was an especially violent crash.

Sebold says the driver of the pickup truck suffered non-critical injuries.
