The victim in fatal single vehicle accident early Saturday morning has been identified. The Madison County Coroner reports that 28-year old Kenneth A. Johnson Jr. of Alton was driving his 2004 Chevy Trail Blazer at a high rate of speed when he lost control and struck a traffic signal pole at the intersection of Homer Adams Parkway and Seminary Road before leaving the roadway and coming to rest in an overturned position. Authorities responded to the scene at 2:19 a.m. and found that Johnson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:00 a.m. Two other occupants in the vehicle also suffered minor injuries in the accident.
Routine toxicological tests will be performed and the cause of the accident remains under the investigation of the Alton Police Department.
