Authorities have released the name of the teenager killed in a two-vehicle accident in Edwardsville on Friday evening. The Madison County Coroner's office says 16-year old Garrett K. Steele, a junior at Edwardsville High School, died as result of blunt force trauma following the accident. Authorities say Steele was the passenger in a 1970 Ford Mustang that was traveling south on Route 157 when the driver lost control for an unknown reason and collided with a 2012 Nissan SUV around 4:45 p.m.

Steele was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident but was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:14 p.m. The driver of the second vehicle, 47-year old Lori Brown of Edwardsville was transported to a local hospital and then airlifted to a St. Louis hospital for treatment. Her condition is unknown.

Funeral arrangements for Steele are pending at Sunset Hills Funeral Home in Glen Carbon.
