The public is invited to attend Sunday's annual Veteran's Day ceremony at the Alton VFW on Alby Street. Post 1308 will conduct a ceremony on the front of the property near the doughboy statue, which represents the end of of World War One. Tomorrow's ceremony begins at noon.
The VFW's Dave Stout says their day will actually begin around 6:30am with the placement of flags not only at the VFW, but the Upper Alton Cemetery, teaming with the Marines for the Avenue of Flags. Then, they will return to the VFW to prep for their event.
Later in Bethalto a "Prayer and Patriotism" Service will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church. At 4:00, there will be a service to honor all veterans from all wars. There will be bagpipes, a color guard, a candle lighting ceremony and a wreath laying ceremony.
