The Madison County Sheriff's Department says a handful of vehicle burglaries happened in Godfrey's Rockgate subdivision Sunday night or Monday morning. The three or four burglaries took place with vehicles that were left unlocked, which law enforcement constantly reminds is a bad idea.
Many vehicle burglaries happen with cars that are left unlocked, and with valuables in plain sight. Law enforcement experts say most criminals in these types of cases are looking for easy targets, and items typically stolen include wallets, purses, electronics, and cash. You are advised to always lock your car doors when parked outside, even if you think you are in a good neighborhood. Turning on a porch light or other outdoor light can also deter a potential thief.
