The Bethalto Fire Department is now running an advanced life support truck, thanks to a vehicle swap earlier this year with the Alton Fire Department. The truck that is now in service in Bethalto is a light-duty rescue truck that is equipped with all of the items needed to respond to a variety of medical emergencies, according to Bethalto Fire Chief Rich Mersinger.

He says there have already been a handful of incidents that required the use of that vehicle, and at least one resident commended the fire department on its increased ability to respond at this week’s Village Board meeting. Bethalto also received a Dodge Durango staff vehicle in the swap, in exchange for a heavy-duty rescue truck, which Alton Fire Chief Bernie Sebold says they have not had to use yet.
