The Madison County Sheriff’s Department is looking for your help. Vandals spray painted graffiti on the Salem Baptist Church in the 2000 block of Seiler Road, and on the brick entrance to the Woodland Hills Subdivision between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. The graffiti included the phrases “Hail Satan” and “666”.
Madison County Sheriff Bob Hertz says charges could include criminal damage to property if the cost of repairs exceeds $300. But since Satanic messages were left on a church, would that qualify as a hate crime?

Hertz says in most cases of vandalism, it is the work of kids with “nothing better to do.” If you know anything about the crimes, call 692-0871, or the anonymous tip line at 296-3000.
