Monday’s water main break on Alby Street in Alton has resulted in the need for more work on the system today. A temporary interruption in service will affect about 110 customers in the area of the break, which happened near the intersection of Alby and Brentwood Streets.
Specifically, the affected area includes the 2100 – 2200 blocks of Fernwood Place; 3000 –3200 blocks of Alby Street, 100 – 400 blocks of Brentwood Boulevard, 300 block of Lindenwood Boulevard and 2400 block of North Henry Street. Illinois American Water Company spokesperson Karen Cotton says they will be replacing a 50-year-old valve.

Once water service is restored, a boil water order will be in effect until water quality samples confirm that the water is safe for consumption. Any water to be used for drinking or cooking should be brought to a rolling boil for 5 minutes prior to consumption. Water is OK for bathing, washing and other common uses.
