People whose loved ones are among Illinois’ developmentally disabled population gathered Tuesday afternoon outside the governor’s office in Springfield with a message: cut the budget somewhere else. The Illinois League of Advocates for the Developmentally Disabled is anxious over the governor’s plans to shutter the Jacksonville Developmental Center and the Mabley Developmental Center in Dixon.

 Led by Rita Burke of Makanda, the parents and other family members are concerned that not only is the community (or a group home) the wrong place for their loved ones, but also that there appears to be no plan for a transition for the residents.
