The winter weather was a major challenge for some motorists on Thursday, and at least two accidents in Madison County have been fatal. Illinois State Police report a crash yesterday afternoon near Marine that resulted in the death of one person, and a second resulting crash injured two others. The driver has been identified as 50-year-old Vincent L. Terrie of New Baden.

Terrie was employed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, and was Chaplain of the East St. Louis Police Department. Authorities say whiteout conditions may have played a roll in Terrie crossing into the path of a semi-truck on Route 4 near Weber Road around 2:40pm Thursday. Police say the truck driver was not injured. Two others vehicles approaching the scene tried to avoid the wreckage and also struck head-on. The drivers of those vehicles were transported to area hospitals and were treated for non-life threatening injuries. In all, Illinois State Police dealt with 38 crashes in District 11...which covers the Metro East...on Thursday.
