The Madison County Treasurer's Office mailed out 130,000 tax bills in May, and the final tax payers were a woman from Alton and her niece, who showed up with just minutes to go on December 30.  While they got their bill paid in the nick of time, there are about 10,000 property owners who did not pay their tax bill, and that could lead to a series of headaches if not addressed soon, according to Treasurer Kurt Prenzler (pictured, right).


He says if your property goes to the tax sale, you don't immediately lose your house.
