Granite City Police are investigating after an officer's unmarked vehicle was stolen last night.  The officer suffered minor injuries when the thief then drove away from the scene, striking the officer in the process.

Authorities say the officer pulled up behind a minivan Monday evening that was waiting to make a turn onto Route 3 from North Street.  The off-duty officer went to check on the driver after the van failed to move and found a person slumped at the wheel.  Another person got into the officer's vehicle and drove toward the officer, knocking him down.  Both vehicles then fled the scene and last believed to be in the city of St. Louis.   Inside the vehicle was the officers badge, firearms, radio and vest.  The car is a silver Ford Fusion with Illinois license plate B37 2394.
