A trio of young men have been roaming a couple of neighbordoods in Godfrey, allegedly trying to drum up business for a home improvement company. That is about all that is known about them, as the solicitors have not acquired the permits to allow them to operate within village boundaries, and most homeowners have been sending them on their way fairly quickly, according to Godfrey Village Clerk Pam Whistler.

They are apparently concentrating on the Belmont and Springhaven Subdivisions. Following numerous complaints about pushy door-to-door salesmen over the summer, the Godfrey Village Board is strengthening its rules pertaining to solicitors. It will soon cost $100 to get a permit, rather than just $5 a day. Again, the telephone number for the Sheriff's Department is 692-4433.
