There is a new resource for middle school students and their families in dealing with math problems.  SIUE recently launched a Homework Hotline geared toward 6-8th graders.  Tutors can be reached Sunday through Thursday evenings from 7-10pm.

Program co-coordinator Cindy McAndrews says by helping students understand their math homework now, they will have a better shot at getting a degree and a career in one of the STEM fields, which traditionally has higher wages and lower unemployment.

The hotline was launched in mid-February, and is staffed by university students studying mathematics, engineering, business and education.  Some of those students will be certified to teach middle school after they graduate.  One of the coordinators says by helping students understand their math homework now, they will have a better shot at getting a degree and a career in one of the STEM fields, which traditionally has higher wages and lower unemployment.   You can call the hotline through at least May 1 at 650-3072.
