The local chapter of the United Way hopes to raise $1.9 million dollars during its 2014 campaign.  It’s part of the overall goal of $72.5 million for the St. Louis area, but locally the money will assist forty local health and human service organizations covered by the Southwest Illinois Division.

Joann Barton of TheBank of Edwardsville is the campaign chair for this year and says they decided to increase the goal by a few thousand dollars after surpassing last years target:

Barton says the campaign committee is now visiting with dozens of businesses in the region to ask for their support of the United Way.   The fundraising effort will conclude in early November.
