While unemployment numbers in the Metro East stayed about the same last month, other areas of the state continued to see more people returning to work. Nine out of the 12 metro areas saw a drop in the jobless rate over the year, says Illinois Department of Employment Security spokesperson Greg Rivara.

Six of the areas enjoyed an increase in jobs, especially construction jobs.

Rivara comments

The biggest decline in the unemployment rate was seen in the Rockford, Peoria, Kankakee and Chicago areas.
