Underage drinking is a serious problem in the U.S., and Madison County is no different. Arrests are continuing at an above-average rate, with about 90 underage alcohol-related incidents and made more than 240 arrests for related offenses so far this year. It is a number that concerns members of the Madison County Sheriff's Department.
Getting a handle on underage drinking has been a goal of Madison County Sheriff Bob Hertz since the start of his administration. The number of arrests are on the rise, and Captain Mike Dixon says it is the drinking and driving that is the biggest concern.
He says many of the busts are the results of calls to the anonymous tip line, which is 296-3000. Dixon says this is a public safety issue, and would ask that anyone who knows of, or suspects an underage drinking gathering is occurring would call the tip line.
