The state is on record pace in returning unclaimed property to its rightful owners, and a local event Wednesday could keep that momentum going. From 1-2pm, State Treasurer Dan Rutherford's I-CASH team will be at the Lewis & Clark Community College N.O. Nelson Campus to help local residents find out if they have unclaimed property.
Rutherford says they returned more than 100-million dollars worth of property last year and he hopes to beat that number this year.
There are plenty of lost or forgotten items in the I-Cash vault, including coins, stocks, bonds, war medals, and plenty of other items. It's easy to see if you have unclaimed property or cash in the vault. Just visit Icash.Illinois.gov and perform a quick search. The treasurer's office redesigned the website earlier this month and they're already seeing an increase in the number of claims filed.
