The University of Illinois is getting 25-million dollars to help find ways to end hunger. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is providing the cash, which will be spread over five years. The research is designed to address global food shortages in the future.
Professor Stephen Long says starvation could be a real problem if we don't see an increase in staple crops by 2050. He and his team will try to determine if photosynthetic efficiency can help curb or remedy the threat of starvation in countries like southeast Asia and Africa in the future.
