University of Illinois officials are alerting football fans that tailgaters in Memorial Stadium parking lots must honor the school's smoke-free campus policy. Signs are hanging at all entrances to university parking lots and the stadium's parking lot informing people of the policy.
The school became smoke-free on January 1st after a student referendum. University cops will let smokers know of the policy and ask them to put out their cigarettes. Any violators could be removed from the parking lot.
