From illegally withheld e-mails to a resigning chancellor – it hasn’t been a good week for the University of Illinois. Urbana-Champaign campus Phyllis Wise resigned, citing external distractions, but not citing what those are. The university is facing a couple of lawsuits – one from a professor whose employment offer was rescinded upon making anti-Israel tweets, and another regarding racial bias on the women’s basketball coaching staff.

A spokesman wouldn’t say whether Wise was asked to resign, and Wise hasn’t spoken publicly since her announcement. Meanwhile, the university’s admitted it should have released private e-mails requested through the Freedom of Information Act. They were sent on private servers to shield them from public view.
