Two St. Charles County Sheriff's Deputies were shot and injured near O'Fallon, Missouri, early this morning and a man wanted in connection with the shooting is dead.  The injuries to the officers were not life-threatening, and a manhunt this morning reportedly led police to the alleged shooter who was shot dead by police while trying to take him into custody.

The incident began today when officers approached his home around 1:00am as they responded to a call of shots fired.  One of the officers was reportedly shot in the arm as he approached the house, while a second officer was shot in the hand while he was sitting in his patrol car.  A third officer suffered minor injuries when he was struck by shattered glass.  Around sunrise, 61 year old Richard Heeter was confronted by several officers who were trying to take him into custody.  Heeter allegedly stabbed a St. Louis County officer and was shot to death by another officer on the scene.
