It sounds like it was nice while it lasted – two union leaders becoming eligible for a teacher’s pension by virtue of their one day of service as substitute teachers.  A bill sponsored by State Rep. Jack Franks (D-Marengo, pictured) would remove them from the system. The union officials would have to forfeit all of their credit in TRS, which would refund their contributions. The loophole which made them eligible is already closed.

While Franks said there is precedent for removing participants from the pension system – in the cases of former governors – State Rep. Kevin McCarthy (D-Orland Park) wanted to point out David Piccioli and Steven Preckwinkle are not criminals.  H.B. 3865 has passed the Illinois House today (Wednesday), 112-0.
