Two college students are dead after their vehicle is submerged underwater. Police say they received a phone call early Saturday morning letting them know the car had driven off a boat launch and into Cedar Lake, near Carbondale. A dive team pulled the vehicle from the water and found the two young women in the front seat, Twenty-year-old Marielle Carson of Chicago and 21-year-old Latisha Ray of Carbondale both died as a result of drowning.

Three other people in the car managed to escape before the car went completely underwater. The two victims were sitting in the front seat. Toxicology tests are pending and the incident remains under investigation.
