A tip from the public helped police build a case against two East Alton men in a recent burglary. The two have been charged following a break in at the Farm Fresh Store on East Airline Drive in East Alton early last Friday morning. The burglary was similar to an incident last fall, and police believe the two cases are connected.
Charged with burglary are 18 year old Keaton Weller and 19 year old Skylar Martin both of the 500 block of Spruce Street. Police report a witness called in the break in just after 4:30am last Friday with Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies and Bethalto Police responding to the scene. Surveillance video captured the burglary with one suspect busting the glass front door and stealing cigarettes and cigars while the second suspect watched. The pair fled before police arrived and a police K9 unit was unable to pick up a scent following a search of the area. After releasing the details of the incident to the media, police received a call last Friday evening from someone who provided details on the case. Investigators were able to build a case and arrested the men on Saturday. They are being held in the Madison County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bond each.
