Alton Police believe they know the men responsible for four recent smash and grab robberies in the city. Burglary charges have been filed against 41 year old Willie L. Carter of the 1400 block of State Street and 20 year old Ralphael D. Alexander of the 2200 block of Humbert Street both of Alton. The two men were arrested early Monday morning and charged in Madison County Court.
Alexander is charged in connection with breaking into the Farm Fresh on Fosterburg Road and the Hit and Run on State Street. Carter is accused of breaking into the BP store at Washington and Brown Streets on two different occasions, and the Hit and Run and the Farm Fresh last week. In each case the front windows or door windows were smashed, allowing the suspect to gain entry and grab mostly boxes of cigarettes and cigars that police say they would then re-sell on the streets.
