Alton Police believe they have solved a recent string of copper and air conditioner thefts with the arrests of two Alton residents. 56-year-old Frank Thomas and 20-year-old Rashonda R. Barnes, both of the 900 block of Harrison Street, are each charged with 13 counts of Theft over $500, and Thomas is also charged with Possession of a Weapon by a Felon. Both are in custody and being held on $100,000 bond.
A search warrant was executed at their residence on Tuesday, which led to their arrests. They have been charged in three thefts from the Ursuline Convent, two thefts from St. James Baptist Church, thefts at West Elementary, East Elementary and Alton Middle School, College Avenue Presbyterian Church, Orthopedic and Sports Medicine, Freer Auto Body and the Department of Children and Family Services. The investigations are ongoing.
