A carjacking in Alton ended with a pair of arrests and police still searching for additional suspects from late Friday night. Alton Police report the incident began at 9:30 p.m. Friday when an unidentified vehicle rear-ended a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro at the intersection of East Broadway and Cpl. Belchick Memorial Expressway. Authorities say the victim exited the Camaro to access the damage and was confronted by two men from the other vehicle.  During the confrontation, one of the suspects allegedly displayed a weapon before stealing the victim’s wallet and driving off in the Camaro with a second suspect. The victim was able to notify Alton Police who contacted the remote driver service OnStar to locate and disable the vehicle as it was followed by police in north St. Louis.

Two suspects were taken into custody at scene but have not been identified pending the filing of formal charges. Authorities believe there could be as many as three additional suspects who are not in custody at this time.
