The Madison County Health Department has been coordinating the Madison County Medical Reserve Corps, which is a team of local volunteers who donate their time and expertise to support existing public health and emergency resources during an emergency, for 10 years and has declared a day to recognize the service put forth by the Corps. Tuesday has been declared Madison County Medical Reserve Corps Day. Heath Promotion Manager for the Madison County Health Department Amy Yeager tells The Big Z how this special day has come about.

She says the unit has had great success and that emergencies could not be responded to effectively without the volunteers. Around 81% of the volunteers have gone through basic orientation training with several also trained in first aid for psychological response, FEMA, and CPR.
