Godfrey Trustee Sarah Johnes (pictured) still thinks the issue of video gambling deserves to be addressed by the board, but is powerless to make that happen. She was one of three trustees - along with Mike Stumpf and Jerry Gibson - that had hoped to let the people of the village decide the fate of the machines, but with a tie vote, Mayor Mike McCormick broke the tie when the board voted not to ban video gaming.
Under village rules, only those who originally supported allowing video gaming may bring the topic up once again. So the issue is likely dead, as those that fell on the other side of the vote have not re-introduced the issue since the advisory referendum in April. Gibson says while he's not completely happy with gambling in the village, he's not going to push back either.
That vote showed a slim majority of those who cast ballots did not support the practice.
