Numerous Illinois agencies are involved in investigations into last week's death of a state trooper. Illinois State Police, the U.S. Department of Transportation and Dot Transportation Incorporated are reportedly conducting their own independent investigations into the death of 32-year-old trooper Kyle Deatherage. The trooper was killed during a traffic stop on Interstate 55 north of Litchfield last week.
No charges have been filed against Johnny Felton of Hinesville, Georgia - he's the driver of the tractor-trailer authorities say hit the trooper along the highway. A report by the Department of Transportation has alleged Felton lost consciousness while driving his commercial truck before striking Deatherage. Last Friday, the DOT issued a report stating Felton failed to make officials aware of his medical conditions, and has been ordered out of service until further notice. Felton has not been charged with any crimes in the case, and federal officials say the move to remove him from the roads was a separate matter from the criminal investigation.
