“Inspiring” is the word Illinois State Police trooper Kevin Smith used to describe his experience in Washington D.C. over the weekend. He and 39 other Illinois troopers were sent to the U.S. Capital to work security during the presidential inauguration. Political affiliations were put aside to take part of history.

“Regardless of what your political standpoint or party is, it was a very inspiring event just to see the nation’s capital and the excitement,” Smith said. While in D.C. the troopers worked on the southeast side of the White House lawn at 15th Street. Their job was to make sure both the president and attendees remained safe. More than 90 law enforcement agencies from across the U. S. were a part of the security detail.
