A plan to bring public transportation to the Tri Counties of Jersey, Greene and Calhoun has hit a speed bump. The plan is still in the final stages stages, and is being supported by the Tri-County Transportation Committee, Western Illinois University, and the U of I Extension Service. But it still needs the support of two of the three county boards
The Calhoun County Board has approved the plan, but Jersey and Greene have not, according to Jersey County Business Association CEO Alan Gilmore. Funding would come from the federal government, but Gilmore says time is running out.
He says this will not be a service similar to the transit systems in Madison and St. Clair Counties. It will be a "ride on demand" service, in which those needing a ride will call ahead.
