The Madison County Treasurer's Office mails out about 130,000 tax bills each year, and each year a percentage of property owners choose to pay in person at a bank or credit union. Treasurer Kurt Prenzler’s office has honored the GCS Credit Union branch on Maryville Road in Granite City with this year’s “top performance certificate.”
Prenzler tells The Big Z there are more than 100 branches of banks and credit unions throughout the county that accept real estate tax payments – what he calls collector banks.

These financial institutions collect about 18% of taxes for the county, according to Prenzler. You can find a list of collector banks and credit unions at the treasurer’s website: www.madcotreasurer.org
